How do guitar lessons progress?
Guitar follows RSL Rockschool and Trinity Rock & Pop — contemporary boards with repertoire students actually want to play, and no theory prerequisite at higher grades. See how they compare with ABRSM in our exam board comparison.
- First chords. Open chords, strumming patterns, simple riffs and changing between chords in time.
- Debut–Grade 2. First Rockschool/Trinity exams: set songs, technical work and simple improvised sections.
- Grades 3–5. Barre chords, lead techniques, tone control and playing across pop, rock and blues styles.
- Grades 6–8. Advanced lead and rhythm playing, stylistic fluency and full mock exams to performance standard.
