Why Here

Why learn violin at our Tengah HQ?

📏

Sized-to-fit beginnings

Young starters learn on 1/16 to 1/2 size violins matched to arm length — comfort first, because a straining grip becomes a straining tone.

🏛️

HQ teaching standards

As the headquarters studio, Tengah sets the bar: the same conservatory-trained strings teachers and mock-exam routines that produce our Distinctions.

👂

Ears trained early

With no frets to lean on, pitch lives in the ear — so aural work is woven into every Tengah lesson from week one, paying off later in ABRSM aural marks.

The Journey

How do violin lessons progress?

Violin at Tengah follows the ABRSM strings pathway to Grade 8 — posture and intonation first. See the grade ladder and Grade 5 Theory rule in our ABRSM guide.

  1. Foundations. Posture, bow hold, open strings and first finger patterns on a correctly sized instrument.
  2. Initial–Grade 2. First ABRSM exams with simple repertoire, scales and aural — entered when ready, not by the calendar.
  3. Grades 3–5. Shifting, vibrato foundations, richer repertoire; theory runs in parallel toward the Grade 5 gateway.
  4. Grades 6–8. Advanced positions, expressive interpretation and full mock exams to ABRSM standard.

FAQ

Violin lessons in Tengah — parents ask us

Where are your violin lessons in Tengah held?
Violin lessons run at Liberal's headquarters studio, 127A Plantation Crescent, #01-381, Singapore 691127 — at Plantation Plaza next to McDonald's, serving Tengah, Bukit Batok West and Choa Chu Kang.
What age should a child start violin at Tengah?
Around age 4 to 5 is typical, on fractional violins from 1/16 size upward. Teachers check sizing and readiness at the free trial, and younger children can begin with our Music for Kids programme first.
Do I need to buy a violin before the first lesson?
No — come to the trial first. The teacher will confirm the correct fractional size and suggest a sensible starter budget, so you never buy an instrument your child has outgrown by next term.
Does the Tengah branch prepare students for ABRSM violin exams?
Yes — the full ABRSM strings pathway from Initial Grade to Grade 8, with sight-reading and aural trained weekly and Grade 5 Theory scheduled before it becomes a roadblock to Grade 6.
How long does each violin grade take?
Roughly nine to twelve months per grade at the lower levels with steady weekly practice, and longer from Grade 6. Your teacher maps a realistic timeline at the trial lesson.
